A Beautiful Bay
Santander is a coastal city with an extensive south-facing bay which, thanks to its great beauty, is a member of the “Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club”.
The city is characterised by its urban development over various small hills and watercourses. As a result, it has steep streets, sharp ascending and descending slopes, sprawling poplar groves and coastal pathways. It is also characterised for having reclaimed land from the sea in a large central area.
Pleasant walks
It has an endless number of impressive natural places such as Mataleñas park and the Peninsula of La Magdalena where we find the Palace of La Magdalena. We mustn't forget other areas full of charm like El Sardinero, the Pereda or Castelar walk where you can enjoy pleasant walks as the kings, aristocrats and artists of the XIX century did.
Originally, it was a fisherman’s town. However, its main activities today focus on nearby industry, tourism, trade and its port activity.
Santander has a damp, mild, Atlantic climate with fairly constant temperature between 8º and 12º, while the summer months do not get warmer than 30º.
