Cultural activities all year around
Santander`s cultural events boast a variety of alternatives, such as the countless courses and seminars offered by Menendez Pelayo International University, a global benchmark in academics.
There is also the Palacio de Festivales cultural centre, which offers a wide programme of cultural activities all year around, including the Santander International Festival in summer and its varied activities featuring classical ballet, opera, theatre and classical music.
The prestigious Santander Piano Competition and the Santander Forum of Music and Academy are held in July.
Permanent and temporary exhibitions
Santander’s most noteworthy museums include the Fine Arts Museum- Museo de Bellas Artes-, which houses both permanent and temporary exhibitions featuring various painters, Cantabria Maritime Museum, Prehistory Museum, Old Quays of Santander Interpretation Centre and the Faro Cabo Mayor” Art centre.
The Exhibition Centro – Palacio de Exposiciones – in the Sardinero, a building with almost 6.400 m, is the ideal space for holding corporate meetings, conferences and fairs. Equipped with the latest technology, it has become an essential benchmark for the hosting of all types of events.
Sporting events, concerts and performances
Opened in 2003, the Sport Centre – Palacio de los Deportes -- features avant-garde architecture and is a regular host to sporting events, concerts and performances.
There is also a wide variety of art galleries in the city, including the Botín Foundation. These galleries are involved in the areas of science, technology, cultural heritage-visual arts, music- and social development.
