What variety of Spanish will I learn?

Despite being spoken by hundreds of millions of people in over twenty countries, Spanish has maintained a high degree of cohesion. Nonetheless, as is natural, there are differences in the language used in different Spanish-speaking countries. These differences are most frequent at vocabulary and pronunciation level and generally do not represent any obstacle to effective communication among speakers from different regions of Spain and Latin America. Yet, to avoid unnecessary confusion, the course creators have opted to offer the student a single, specific language model: namely, the Spanish used by educated speakers from the north of the Iberian Peninsula. This said, a considerable volume of complementary material, corresponding to other geographical varieties of Spanish, will gradually be introduced so that the student can become familiar with them.
